In February and March HAEMUS organized a public stone tools workshops at the the Museum of the Old Bazaar, entitled “The stories written in stone”. The aim of this project hosted by Vasilka Dimitrovska, president of HAEMUS and specialist for prehistoric stone tools was educating the students of archaeology about the stone tool typology, technology and use-wear analyses.The workshops joint the students from both, the University department of archaeology in Skopje and the University department of archaeology in Shtip.
Topic 1: Introduction to the world of prehistoric stone tools;
Topic 2: Basic principles and criteria for petrologic, technological and morphological analysis of stone artifacts;
Topic 3: Basic principles and criteria for petrologic, technological and morphological analysis of ground stone artifacts and abrasives tools;
Theme 4: Working with stone material and recognition of prehistoric tools from the archaeological site Cocev kamen, based on surface material collected from undergraduate students of archaeology.
These workshops are complement to the academic program of the Faculty of Archaeology in both universities. They provided the students and participants with theoretical and practical aspects of the analysis of stone artifacts, covering following categories: analysis of raw material, technological, typological and functional analysis of artifacts, statistical data, and interpretation of the results of the analysis.
