Abstract
This paper deals with the origin of the raw material for chipped stone tools found at the prehistoric archaeological sites in Eastern Macedonia. The abundance of the sites gravitating around few location where an operational mines and quarries are still located, gave the possibility to test in the field and to compare the stone chipped material with the samples from the nearby mines and quarries.
The author investigated the possible ways of procurement and distribution of the raw material in an attempt to reconstruct and gain a more comprehensive picture about its technical and typological characteristics. The identification followed by chemical analyses will confirm the pattern or rule out the link of the chipped stone material from prehistoric assemblages with its ‘original’ source.
