Martinki event 2018 - Publishing 3 books for children

As part of the activities of the Martinki event in 2018, the publishing house Ars Lamina was involved, creating publications for children titled “MARTINKI: Threads, Weavings, and Red-White Tangles,” as well as hosting creative workshops through the educational center Ars Lamina and the bookstores Literatura.mk. The author of the book is Vasilka Dimitrovska, director of HAEMUS, and the books were published in Macedonian, Albanian and English language.

“Ars Lamina joins the ‘Happy Grandma March 2018’ event, and to mark the inclusion of the tradition of martinki on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage, it has produced and published children’s books on martinki in three languages - Macedonian, Albanian, and English. With this edition, we aim to introduce this tradition to the youngest in a fun and child-friendly way, to give them ideas on how to make martenitsi themselves, thus helping to continue the tradition,” said Branka Bugariska, Director of Publishing at Ars Lamina.

Due to the social inclusiveness of the event, an agreement has been made with the “One Can” foundation, and single parents are engaged to be part of the event. They focused primarily on creative children’s workshops for making martinki.

The traditional event “Grandma March Day 2018” was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia and the city of Skopje, under the motto of UNESCO for Open Educational Resources.
