About us

Welcome to HAEMUS, your gateway to the rich cultural heritage of the Balkans. Since our establishment in 2012, we’ve proudly stood as the premier organization of our kind in the region. At HAEMUS, our mission is clear: to foster scientific research and celebrate the diverse culture of the Balkan Peninsula through a myriad of activities including: resource management, publication, education, interpretation, promotion and heritage tourism.

The main and primary goal of HAEMUS is scientific and scholarly research in the fields of archaeology, history, culture and art. Particular attention is paid to the dissemination of the cultural heritage of the Balkans through publication of expert and popular books, brochures, ancillary works, catalogues and maps. The aim is to introduce archaeology, history and common culture to the professional and public media in an accurate and truthful manner. We also provide advice and assistance in the creation of audio-visual materials, such as audio-guides, documentaries, videos and other promotional material related to cultural heritage. We arrange different types of educational activities, such as lectures, workshops, seminars or conferences.

Education is at the heart of what we do. Through lectures, workshops, and conferences, we aim to engage minds and inspire a deeper understanding of Balkan heritage. As stewards of knowledge, we also manage the UNESCO Club HAEMUS, championing open access to educational resources in alignment with UNESCO’s vision.

We proudly release several issues of HAEMUS Journal, a peer-reviewed academic e-journal dedicated to the history and archaeology of the Balkans. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding Balkan heritage and scholarship.

HAEMUS – center for scientific research and promotion of the culture, endorses historical and archaeological research, exploration, education, popularization, promotion and management of the cultural heritage of the Balkan peninsula as a mutual benefit from the past.
